Optimum building of the flat roof - OPTIMO roof

OPTIMO roofs are flat roofs with optimum composition, with the installed FIBRANxps INCLINE sloping insulation boards instead of sloping screed. WHY?

When designing flat roofs, but mostly when refurbishing terraces and balconies, the following obstacles may appear:

  • When designing green roofs on the existing buildings, or when refurbishing and upgrading flat roofs, the increased loading is not recommended.
  • When refurbishing the existing foot-trafficked terraces, it is difficult to ensure the appropriate thickness of thermal insulation, due to the limited heights.
  • On the roofs of low-energy and passive buildings a very thick thermal insulation layer must be installed. Green roofs, which are without a doubt part of the sustainable way of building, increase the thickness, as well as the weight of the roof’s construction.

Inclinations on OPTIMO flat roofs are executed with light-weight, thin and energy efficient insulation sloping board FIBRANxps INCLINE.

  3. increased thermal performance of the roof’s construction

Note:

Bituminous waterproofing layers:
Working with naked flame on polystyrene insulation is not permitted, therefore when using bituminous membranes, self-adhesive waterproofing strips should be used.

PVC waterproofing layers:
The chlorides in PVC membranes have a negative effect on polystyrene boards when in direct contact, therefore an adequate separating layer should be applied between the two.



Light-weight, thin sloping board

Light-weight sloping thermal insulation boards FIBRANxps INCLINE are used instead of heavy and occasionally too thick layer of sloping screed.

Sloping thermal insulation FIBRANxps INCLINE and its advantages in practice

  • reduces the loading of roof for the total weight of sloping screed. With average thickness of 10 cm the reduced mass is app. 200 kg/m2,
  • reduces the thickness of sloping board, as the initial thickness of thermal insulation sloping board FIBRANxps INCLINE is e.g. 1 cm, while the lowest initial thickness of sloping screed is between 4 and 5 cm.
  • increases the additional thermal resistance of the roof, which can be taken into account when designing the thermal insulation thickness.

Even if there is only one reason for installing FIBRANxps INCLINE, it provides all the three above mentioned advantages. The roof with the installed FIBRANxps INCLINE has all the right to be called OPTIMO roof.

FIBRANxps INCLINE is very useful for refurbishment of flat roofs, terraces, balconies…. INCLINE boards have very high compressive strength so they can be used at traffic platforms, as well.

Standard products are manufactured with 1,67%  and 2% inclination. In our company, FIBRAN, we can provide, free of charge, a working plan for the installation of sloping boards.

 

 

A note:

If bituminous strips are used as waterproofing layer, the first waterproofing layer on the sloping thermal insulation board should be applied with self-adhesive strips, as working with naked flame is not permitted on polystyrene insulation.

PVC waterproofing membranes are not recommended, as chlorides have a negative effect on polystyrene insulation material. Therefore, an adequate separating layer is laid between PVC waterproofing layer and polystyrene thermal insulation.
